Hi,

I know that there are a lot of request out there for this or that.

I do really would like to see this project have an application in android for the following reasons.

1, This is a small program with small work units.
2, Time involved per work units would be much less than the 40 to 80 hrs needed like say on Einstein and Milkyway projects. It might be around 4 to 8 hours at most. Even then I hope that it would not take that long due to the size.
3. Your work units would be expanded for more computers to work with and in finding more results.
4. Results would flow in and out of the users system somewhat like their home computer. AKA "quick turnaround"

I can think up some more later but I do hope that you would give this some consideration as a possible computing pathway for your project. Thanks for listening.

Hi Timothy,
Thanks for that idea. When we started this, we chatted about this option and just assumed that phones/tablet would not be popular formats for BOINC because of the possibility of battery drain. Of course one could set it up so that FM@H only kicked in when the phone/tablet was plugged in, or if battery is >50% or some other way to make sure the user does not get pissed off.
We'll re-investigate this option for our future plans.

Thanks Ant I really do appreciate your response for the suggestion that I put forth.

I have my phone processing several different projects currently with the following settings:

1. Process when plugged up to a power source.
2. Run at most 70% memory.
3. Run until 55% on Battery.
4. Run in power saver mode.
5. Return WU only by Wi-Fi connection.

Personal
6. I crunch when I am going to Work and my phone is in the phone cradle doing nothing but charge and only crunch wu,



Since I enjoy watching the turnaround of the number of units for this project on my home computers in Windows and Linux,
I thought that this would be an easy processing for a android phone or tablet to do. It takes a lot of time for others like Einstein, Milkyway and Seti to be finished in the android system.

As an example, a Seti wu I have on my phone is projected to take 74 hours but its return date is about 2.5 months from now.

A wu from this project only takes on this computer 6 minutes to 25 minutes depending on the computer used, I believe that a phone wu in android might take from hour to 3 hours at most. That is still acceptable for return of assigned wu in a project and still be within the same time frame of the current project.

That is why I would urge this project to develop the code for the android operating system when possible.

P.S. for others that read this message board:

If there are any others (crunchers) out there that have a tablet or phone that uses Boinc, please let others be aware of possible use for your device.

I know that I am not the only one that uses this program to crunch my WU.

Besides reading the message board please write and let others know that your using Boinc in a way other than on a Desktop or laptop computer. Developers for the Boinc projects will not know what the supply of units are within the crunchers if no one lets them now that there is a large supply of technology to tap into for making use of. I know that everyone has a phone, maybe not a smart one but a phone none the less. This will be before they own a computer due to availability. If it happens to be a unit that can crunch and the owner wants to use Boinc, so much the better for the project if the wu are easy for the unit to process. People will join and stay with a project if they see wu processed and new ones loaded up from the internet for processing.

I'm interested in an application for android too.
I ordered a minix neo x7 android device with arm A9 quadcore processor for the main purpose boinc 24/7. So I'm highly interested in supporting more than one project in healthcare.
The android device doesn't run on battery and has low power consumption.

Hi, I don´t know, but I think an Android App for this project is great, but the status is by ~65-70% done. To write an app for Android isn´t so important.
