Message 1342 - Posted: 27 Mar 2014, 15:36:25 UTC - in response to Message 1338.

Hi Aurel,

Good news: the FiND@H transfer should be painless and everyone's accounts should move over directly.

And I'll tell people which diseases we're setting up, and will happily accept suggestions also. So far we've only done Malaria work, and have the whole TB genome ready to go.

Bad news: We tried to build a GPU version of Vina, but failed. As far as we know nobody's managed to make one yet. If we get hold of one we'll add that in as an option. Similarly, we could not re-engineer Vina for checkpointing, so that's also reached a dead end.

ciao,
Ant

Hi Robert,

an Migration is an hard Progress and can take weeks or months. I don´t know who many persons are working on this. I don´t know which size of datas will be stored now on the servers. [But this could be many TB´s; I hope nor PT´s...]
So, this can take a lot time. [Only 118 GB...that must be more.]

Please keep calm. :)

Small steps...

We have managed to get agreement from the IT department here to host our new (second hand) servers, and have thus purchased an SSD drive today to install in the main node.

So hopefully we'll be up and running again soon.
['soon' being my new least favourite word!]

ciao,
Ant

"Do nothing" seems to be the name of the game with this project (what ever its called). I thought the new project was supposed to be in place by the beginning of last month. I guess I should have asked "Which year?"

Its time to fish or cut bait. Either get this project going, or shut down and close up shop. I'm getting tired of waiting and hoping.

I admit it is hard to see progress from where we are but don't let it stress you mate :) I'm plugged into other projects as well so my computers can churn for a project while this one is getting prepped. I'm ready whenever it comes back online and until then I get the warm fuzzy feeling for crunching for other disease projects.

I'll pop my head in again in a few weeks. Until then~

There are many other BOINC projects, how "useful" one considers them is purely a personal choice. If you want "large" projects try CERN for LHC work. Each task needs 24 hours CPU and you get a month to do them. OH by the way it needs to run as both a virtual machine and a BOINC task.

Neither, but if if you're giving me a choice, I'm just glad "Finrond" wasn't an option.

I'm just impatient with promises made and then broken while we wait for months hoping something is being done and someone remembers to update the user community with status.

The unwarranted name calling isn't helping the impatience factor either.

If it gets some action (or at least a status update), it was necessary; and stop calling me Shirley. :)

Hi Ant,

an GPU-version is possible, you can see it at Poem@Home. [Okay, they have little problems]
You can use MATLAB, this should run. But, MATLAB is expensive. This is the only good programm for this, without Vina from Autodesk.
You can ask by Autodesk for an GPU-Support, e.g. for bigger files. [up to 1 GB/file]

Great work. We should stay clam and wait for the final day. ;)

Greets,
Aurel

Yes an update on what is happening would be nice.

This project and climate@home seem to be frozen in time and I may unsubscribe unless something positive is announced.

I suppose it could be worse. Orbit@home has been off-line for months but saying "April" (but no year!!) for God knows how long.

Correction, Orbit says early 2014....

I concur with Aurel and Ex-Brit.

The last update was over a month ago. I keep checking back regularly, almost daily, in eager anticipation of more WU's.

Ant, can you please try to give at least a ball-park estimate when this project will be back and running again?

Thank you.
