1) Message boards : Number crunching : Team name disappeared in BOINC manager for Fight Neglected Diseases (Message 2777)
Posted 27 Nov 2016 by Conan
The problem with older BOINC clients may be our use of HTTPS for scheduler requests. Older BOINC clients did not have full set of certification authorities listed; if you do not want to upgrade, you could try transplanting a file "ca-bundle.crt" from a newer client to the old one and it may just fix the issue.

Oh, and our servers occasionally really are down :)

Thanks Rytis, for the information, I will have a play soon and see what happens.

Same here, read the other threads as directed.

This has not helped much as now after detaching and trying to attach it always fails with a server error.

Before detaching and re-attaching all downloads were failing so I aborted all downloads.

I will wait some days before trying again.

Not only has the Team Name disappeared when trying to reconnect but it appears that older BOINC Clients are now barred from being used.

I have tried to re-attach 3 hosts to this project

Two are using BOINC Clients 6.12.41. Yes it is old but it works for what I run.

One is running 7.4.25 and I was just able to not only re-attach but successfully download work without errors.

The 6.12.41 clients keep getting HTTP errors or that the project servers are down and I can't connect at all.

So what is the minimum BOINC Client now for this Project?

if was PHP code, so archive.org can't do anything.

But I'll do it again, it's easy, but I need to find the time. I'm currently writing my PhD proposal, It's gonna take quite some time :)

Good luck with your proposal.

Thanks for the new work.

Ah, OK, makes sense now, forgot about 'that' progress bar.

Don't recall ever seeing a progress bar for FiND@Home. They just start, run then finish with no progress indicated, I just got used to it. Wanless2 does the same thing so it is not just this project that does this for me.

I wouldn't worry too much about the short time estimates as I am getting very long estimates, so far up to 588 hours.
The run time at maximum is below 2 hours.

Occasionally, I'm getting work units that go on for much, much longer than their projected time. I think they're glitched, because when I pause and resume them, they wrap up shortly afterward.

A few example are:

367380_85831_14pre_0
367380_85822_14pre_0

I caught each of these after they were running for four hours.

I've probably lost about 15 hours, just on my main crunching rig.

Is this just me?

I doubt that you would of lost those hours if you had just let them run.
The longest two work units that I have recently run have been 9,814 seconds and 15,197 seconds, both of which validated on completion.
I have also had a number that have gone over the hour (3,600 second) mark and these have also validated fine.

The estimated times are a bit off. The 17 hour job I mentioned above took less than 3/4 of an hour.
Most are close to estimated, just a few odd-bods out there.

I have just downloaded one that says 23 hours along with others very much shorter.

They will sort themselves out I suppose, better to be over-estimated rather than under.

I have a number of work units sent to me ranging from 16 minutes to over 17 hours in run time estimation, so it will be interesting to see how they run.
My first one back ran over 3 hours (I liked the credits I received for it, thanks).

In what way is this non-duplicating the last year finished GoFightMalaria@Home project by Scripps? Has anything changed since the reply 2 years ago at http://findah.ucd.ie/forum_thread.php?id=4&postid=11 (Notice the same ad vina docking engine is used.)

Well somethings have changed, this project has finished it's Malaria project run (just finished a final clean up) and now will move on to Tuberculosis as the next project where they are trying to FiND a cure.

I don't know of any other main projects that are running this disease as a project.

Those 4,500,000 new work units disappeared very quickly as there are just 18 available and only 74,000 in progress.
What happened to the rest of them?

I managed to get a couple but that is all.

I get

[error] No start tag in scheduler reply

All 4 of my computers can't contact the server at all, possibly due to the above message.

Do I have to detach and re-attach to this project?

I thought it was just a name change so that I didn't have to do anything.

Some things are moving as the servers of DNA@Home have come back up and I can contact them for the first time since the 8th May 2012 (it did duplicate all my computers however).

The DNA servers are fast filling up with heaps of SPAM though, so if the SPAM can be removed first before trying to group the projects (DNA@Home, SubSetsum and FightMalaria) would be a good idea.

Conan

Fightmalaria@home isn't part of thoese projects.

DNA@Home, Wildlife@Home and SubsetSum@Home are the ones being merged onto a single project.

Nothing to do with this one :D

Your are right Falconet, I am not sure how I mixed them all up.

Probably due to both lots of Admin wanting to rename servers and possibly start new Boinc projects, where I would prefer to set up a main umbrella project and have any new ones or other existing ones (that are administered by the same group) set up as sub-projects.

Also limited information from both lots of projects is a bit of a problem.

Trying to follow where I post at all the different projects confuses me sometimes.
I was probably on the wrong project page when I started typing, saw FightMalaria at the top of the page and added that project name into my post.

How about FightAllDiseases@Home or FAD for short.

Or CureAllDiseases@Home ( CAD for short)(could also be CuringAllDiseases).

Or DiseaseCures@Home

With the main umbrella name in place you can then place FightMalaria@home as the first sub-project (so all our stats are kept), and then just keep adding new diseases as sub projects as you need to.

Just some ideas, otherwise you will need to change the projects name every time you change the disease target.

The new credit system is in place. I imagine that it will need some tweaking and I will be working on this over the next few days.
Thanks for your patience,

Thanks Kevin,
The new system appears to be working and the awarded points per work unit seem OK as well.

18) Message boards : Number crunching : cool 0.00 credits (Message 403)
Posted 29 Oct 2012 by Conan
I know that awarded points are not everything and they are worth nothing, that is understood.
I however will have to stop for the time being as the reward verses effort is now down to a very low level.
I was not getting the highest credits before but they were adequate so I tried to reach for the 100,000 point level, alas at the current rate I wont be able to get there.
At 1 credit per WU and not counting the 0.00 credit work units I am getting from 3 to 13 cr/h for an average well under 10 cr/h.

With my work units running from 300 seconds to over 1,000 seconds, with most in the 500 to 600 range, a credit level of 3 to 4 would not be excessive (still quite low).
This would be 21 to 28 cr/h at 500 seconds and 18 to 24 at 600 seconds.

At least that is from my viewpoint, possibly not shared by anyone else.

I will keep checking back to see what credit level you decide to settle on.

(I have been an early member and contributor to a number of recent projects, I have now stopped doing two of them (OProject and FightMalaria), possibly due to the same reason. Whilst causing different outcomes it has netted for me the same end result, a very low return for my input. I will keep an eye on both.

At the moment the Feeder is not running so we can't upload any of the work we currently have on our computers.
So when you allow work again you will get hit with a lot of uploaded work that will again need validating so may slow things down.
